I : Catalogue recordings describe this mark as an inverted
crown. The magnified illustration disproves this. Probably
used to distinguish coins struck by the E.I.C. at a native
mint acquired by the company prior to 1835. An example
is the Poona mint. This mint was taken over in 1818, upon
the depostion of the peshwa Baji Rao. The mark is suggestive
of that which appears on the Poona mint pice issued after 1818.
