Dr. Y V Reddy succeeded Bimal Jalan as the 21st Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He received M.A. in Economics from Madras Universities from India. He Holds a Ph.D. from Osmania University Hyderabad. He is also an Indian Administrative Officer. Before becoming the Governor he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance in Government of India, Principal Secretary, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Deputy Governor of RBI. He was also Executive Director on the Board of the International Monetary Fund. He was the architect of “ Liquidity Corridor ” Created through the introduction of liquidity adjustment facility. He has played a great role in Public Sector disinvestments and balance of payments committees. During his tenure in the year 2006, the “*” (Star) series of replacement notes were introduced for the first time in Rs. 10, Rs. 20 and Rs. 50 denominations. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2010.
